how to play

Hit what glows. Collect fish, then sink the miso bowl: it spins the slot, or opens a boss fight when the fish meter is full.

The slot: Every ball in the miso bowl spins three reels of sushi (up to 4 spins wait as hold lamps). Two matching = REACH. Three matching = ATARI: jackpot points and FEVER (25 s: everything scores x3, bumpers throw sushi, the ramp is a jackpot, a ball save runs). After a fever the next 6 spins win more often.
Fish and bosses: Fish tags sit on the table (lanes, orbit, ramp, round the bumpers); roll over one to collect it. Orders, atari and omikuji give fish too. When the FISH meter fills (6, then 9, 12 and 15) the miso bowl becomes a portal: sink the ball to enter the boss room. Hit the boss with the ball to hurt it: AKAMI (6 HP), CHUTORO (18), OTORO (21), then the whole fish HON-MAGURO (three glowing parts, one after the other, 17 + 20 + 24: only the glowing part can be hurt, and a touch that is too soft says HARDER!). In a boss room the side lanes are closed by guard rails (a ball coming down a wall rolls into the inlane), a drain in the first 8 seconds of a try is fed back once (Easy also saves one more drain per try), and damage stays between tries (a retry costs 3 fish). Ice blocks break for points. A try lasts up to 90 seconds (the screen counts down the last 20): when time runs out the boss gets away, and you keep your ball and your hits. The boss attacks from its mouth and body, with a red warning first: roll the ball into a thrown shot to PARRY it, or hit the boss while it winds up to COUNTER the attack. A defeated boss is sliced and you get a 20 s sashimi shower (it ends when the ball falls out); all four = FULL COURSE CLEAR and a tougher second serving.
Difficulty: Pick it on the table before a game (← → or Z and /, or tap): EASY 5 balls, 30 s ball save, one extra saved drain per boss try and slower attacks; NORMAL 3 balls, 20 s ball save; HARD 2 balls, 10 s ball save and faster attacks. Every difficulty has its own top 5.
Kickbacks: Both outlanes have a kickback: a lit boot lamp means that outlane shoots the ball back into play. Easy re-arms one in 12 s, Normal in 25 s (the lamp pulses in the last 3 s), Hard not at all. Each new ball starts with both lit; the rice bank, a served order and the omikuji relight them. The boss rooms have no kickbacks: their side lanes are closed.
Knife test and swarm: After an order is served the screen shows FIVE shots to make in a row, 18 s each. Lose the ball and the test waits for your next one. Make them all and five balls come out at once: a ball swarm (the first 10 s are saved, every ball alive makes every shot worth more).
Combos: Hit different things within 2.5 s of each other: 2 HIT, 3 HIT ... Each extra hit adds 0.5 to a score multiplier, up to x10.
Orders: The miso bowl takes an order when it is lit. Serve orders to rank up: Dishwasher, Rice Washer, Apprentice, Line Cook, Itamae, Head Chef, Sushi Master, Shogun of Sushi. An order is always lit: sink a ball in the bowl and the order starts. Its goal shows on the screen.
Extras: Bento hole = omikuji fortune slip. Top lanes raise the end-of-ball bonus. The lucky cat pays when you hit what it sits on. Hurry-ups count down a big prize. An extra ball comes at 500,000 points or 5 orders; one last chance saves the final ball once per game; ball save lasts 20 s on Normal.
Keys: Z or ← left flipper, / or → right flipper, hold Space to plunge then let go. X . and ↑ nudge (three nudges in a couple of seconds is a TILT). P pause, M music, F full screen, Esc lets go of the keys.
Touch: Left half of the table = left flipper, right half = right flipper (use both thumbs). Hold LAUNCH, swipe up to nudge.
Sound and FX: Music, SFX, music volume and FX Full / Calm are in the cabinet header. FX Calm removes screen shake, big overlays and fast colour cycling (it is the default when your device asks for reduced motion). Music stays off while the site's zelmon fm player is playing.
Medals: 18 medals are saved on this device: first atari, a 10 hit combo, all 8 orders, Shogun, golden 777, a rainbow reach, multiball, a skill shot, a streak (atari during fever), a million points, a sushi rush, the lucky cat, one for each of the four bosses, the full course and the knife test.
